Planning what to do for a weekend in the summer is part of the fun of preparing for a day trip. Every state has something or some activity unique to that particular state. My state is California and we are known for our natural beauty and outdoor activities. But there are also some great not so natural things to do and see that make for great day trips.

Regardless of the trip planned there are some things that should be done before setting out. Make sure to take enough water along. It is summer and very easy to dehydrate in the heat. Some extra food is a good idea as well to take. Finally the last thing to do is to set the home alarm system before leaving the house. We recently found out how to get an adt alarm around El Paso, so we are very happy.

Twenty miles from our home is the city of Denver- the capitol of Colorado. Denver has lots of activities perfect for day trips and summer fun. One of our favorites is the Denver Zoo. My family never gets tired or bored at seeing the variety of wild animals housed in the zoo. We generally make a day of going to the zoo and next door is the Denver Museum. We try to take in both attractions. The museum is unique and interesting and constantly changes. We have gone many times and each time it seemed like a new experience. The same with the zoo. They are constantly updating and adding new exhibits.
